Religion: the Eternal Necessity
I don’t get people who claim religion isn’t important. I don’t get it when someone doesn’t care whether there is a God or not. I don’t get those people who can just say “meh” and prance about carelessly all throughout life with no regard for the possible consequences of their actions.
I mean, in reality, shouldn’t religion be the center of your life? Really, your belief system determines how you live: for the present or for beyond the future. If you believe in a higher power, a God of some sorts – whether this God be the Christian Almighty, Allah, Buddha, or the Universe –, obviously this authoritative entity determines your moral basis. If you have no God, or should I say if this Earth and its humanity is your God, then you are free to do whatever you want; for you believe your unethical actions will have no detrimental effect on your life in the long-run; only worldly benefit.
There are those who say they practice no religion; this is a blatant lie. Their religion is secularism. Religion is a faith, very simply. If you don’t believe in God, you have faith that the infinite cosmos exploded into existence without a definitive cause. If you presume you have no religion, you follow a misguided faith that the existence or nonexistence of God has no effect on you.
I respect all faiths, but this obscure belief in the ineffectuality of the debated existence of a power beyond human comprehension should be discarded immediately. Why? Because anyone with common sense should realize the lack of truth behind this faith. Religion has every effect on life! If there is no God, we can do whatever the crap we want without worry of supernatural punishment. If one doesn’t care or know about God’s alleged nonexistence, then that person may be missing out on some of the most enthralling experiences of a lifetime. If this life is it, then YOLO! On the contrary, if there is a God, we must live our life in constant awareness, treading carefully to avoid sin and welcome goodness. If one doesn’t care or know about the existence of the Superior Judge, that person’s carelessness could easily lure him into the smoldering pits of hell.
Thomas Aquinas, a Doctor of the Church, Catholic Saint, and philosopher, said, “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.” He is indubitably correct. To a certain extent, everything requires faith. Take the Big Bang Theory for example. This has become a widely accepted explanation for the universe’s creation. But despite all the mathematical calculations and laborious procedures employed to prove this theory of Creation, one must still have faith. One must have faith that the mathematicians and astronomers calculated without a single error. One must have faith that such a theory does in fact explain the universe’s existence. One must have faith that the Big Bang is not simply a hoax conceived by secular scientists in an attempt to disprove the existence of God. Faith – Is – Everywhere – whether it’s concerning the Big Bang, how to properly construct a PB&J sandwich, or the existence of God. Belief is everything! How can anyone bear to live in perennial ignorance to the truth? Stop living so unsurely!
As a human with the distinct ability to rationalize, you should make it your objective to set yourself upon a defined path. Make a decision. Live your life with a definite goal in your heart: aim for this life, or aim for the next. It’s so complicated, yet so simple. Do you believe or not? This is your religion.
YOU CHOOSE:
OR
You ideology is great! Digging the pictures and the form of the entire blog. Kind of curious why you chose YOLO though. 9.5/10!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gabe. In answer to your question, I chose YOLO mainly because one's believe in an afterlife usually determines how you live your life here on Earth, whether you believe in Heaven or reincarnation. If you don't believe in an afterlife, you potentially have the freedom to do anything without supernatural consequences; in other words, "YOLO". You only live once, so do whatever the heck you want. I know the phrase "YOLO" isn't exactly supposed to be taken literally, but it fit the tone of my blog.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting look at the construct of religion, but you seem to disregard the existence of Nihilism, and other beliefs people hold which reject religion entirely. Even though they are not pertaining to faith, they are a belief system.
ReplyDeleteOr are you suggesting not that all people, to some extent, hold a regard or belief concerning religion, but that religion should hold a place in their lives, regardless of their current belief system so they may fear God and pursue a healthy lifestyle. If that is the case, then there are other religious beliefs that go against the idea that, quoting you "If there is no God, we can do whatever the crap we want without worry of supernatural punishment," such as religious views following Lucifer, which would believe that all humans, even with sin, are capable of salvation. It is a system which believes in God, and other religious aspects, but rejects the idea of punishment based on actions. How would their faith protect them from your view of punishment? They have it, but they still do not fear supernatural consequences.
On the plus side, you are extremely articulate, and I enjoyed your choices in diction and vernacular. All in all a thought-provoking read.
